Been quiet 'coz
I've been preoccupied. Article link below will explain. J.S. is my husband. The four-year-old mentioned is, of course, our daughter.

http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/california/la-me-vigil5may05,1,1107592.story?coll=la-headlines-pe-california

Daughter is doing ok--thinks she witnessed a car accident. Some trouble sleeping at night, but that's not so unusual for her.

Also trying to power through this month to produce three solid chapters. Got page count at present, but all messy. The downdraft belch.

Would love to meet SCBWI folks who will attend the L.A. conference even though my own kidlit work is on the back burner these days.

Have a good weekend.

Oh, how horrible. I'm so sorry for the tragedy. What an inspiring response from your husband -- a healing act for the victims and for the community.

Good going on the manuscript. "The downdraft belch." Heh, I like that!

If you'd like and feel the time is right, I'd love to have you join us in this monthlong writing project: http://newport2newport.livejournal.com/71623.html?mode=reply

Thanks. And thank you for the invitation. I will look into it and maybe I will join. Seems like low pressure & much cheerleading. Who couldn't use that?!

So upsetting just to read this. I'm understanding even more how it's been so difficult for you and your family to adjust to the new neighborhood. Sounds like your husband's quite a guy. Just wish there was a lot less for him to have to have to rally against.

He is a great guy. I'm with you all the way on wishing there was less to rally against. I hope the vigils will also build something positive. There is much that needs doing.

Good for your husband.

I'm glad your daughter thinks she just witnessed a car accident.

Yeah, this is very typical of my husband and is one of the things I admire about him.

Re; child. In this instance we thought it best to act normal and perpetuate the lie.

I hope I get a chance to meet you in LA.

I'm sorry your husband and poor daughter saw what they did, but thankful they weren't the ones shot. And good for your hubby, taking action.

Frank was at a scooter rally, otherwise he'd be on the phone to you guys right now.

I think it's awesome that J.S. is doing something to be a part of the community that's positive and can lead towards change. Hugs to the little one.

It is awesome to see the community mobilize like this. I hope something substantive and good comes out of this.

Hugs back.

Thanks. I felt light-headed and rubber-legged for two days afterwards. I've got my bearings back now but I'm still saddened by whole ordeal.

He is. The article focused on him, but there are a lot people turning up for these vigils. I've met more people in my neighborhood these past few weeks than I have the entire 9 mos prior.
